Music Video analysis

Let forever be - Chemical Brothers

The music video for Let forever be is both a performance as well as narrative: showing the story of a woman during her day to day life warping out of reality into women mimicking her actions through dance. The video begins with a pan across the high street from a high angle. The shot is mirrored on both sides of the central video, subtracting the importance of the central video to distort the audience's reality just as the character feels in the film. The main video becomes smaller and smaller as if from a security camera then focuses on the drummer on the street.
The camera pans across to the woman sleeping then becomes distorted creating more shots until a kaleidoscope effect is made which has a strait cut to the clocks in the performance scene. The kaleidoscope effect continues to be used throughout and is repeated at a faster pace as the characters reality becomes further distorted.

Golden Days - Whitney

The music video for Golden Days is one long shot of a retro cassette player, edited to have different shots projected onto the reels of film. throughout the video you can see the outline of the reels so that the audience does not become too immersed into the videos. The video begins with 'GOLDEN DAYS' displayed on top of the cassette player in white, this has a large contrast to the vintage appearing videos. The director may have done this to show that the video is a modern made one deliberately appearing vintage with a sepia palette, which is reminded to the audience at the end of the video with 'WHITNEY' placed in the same place. The video is preformative as the band do not show a clear story throughout. The video begins with long shots however the majority of the video consists of close ups of the band members and the instruments. The edited videos are placed on the reels, beginning on the left reel with a worms eye view of the trees and sky. During the latter part of the video some of the same clips play simultaneously, this becomes more frequent the further into the video. After the duration of the song the audio and videos fade out on both reels to show a collaborated ending unlike the beginning which started on one reel.

Delta - C2C

The music video for Delta is a narrative, telling a story through an illustrative video.

The City - The 1975
